Cyprus Memory è un intervento artistico che nasce dal connubio tra due artisti europei, l’italiana Laura Mega ed il cipriota Vassilis Vassiliades, che hanno voluto approfondire la traccia del noto slogan “IO NON DIMENTICO”, ideato da un grafico greco, dopo l’invasione turca a Cipro del 1974, per sensibilizzare l’opinione pubblica internazionale. Questa frase è divenuta, con il tempo, il simbolo della lotta per la liberazione di Cipro contro l’occupazione turca, le cui tracce sono ancora ben visibili, lungo le mura di Nicosia.
L’intervento artistico, curato da Chiara Modìca Donà dalle Rose e supportato dalla venezianissima Fondazione Donà dalle Rose, avrà luogo presso lo Studio Pentadaktylou 16, all’indirizzo Pentadaktylou 16, 1016 Nicosia, nel centro storico di Nicosia, non lontano dalla green line.
Il luogo non è assolutamente casuale, ma parte integrante dell’opera performativa. Lo Studio Pentadaktylou 16 è uno spazio condiviso da cinque artisti, Pentadaktylos (cinque dita) è la catena montuosa situata nella parte settentrionale di Cipro, attualmente occupata dalle truppe turche. Questa strada in particolare è rivolta a nord verso la montagna di Pentadaktylos che si vede all’orizzonte.
“Cipro, culla della cultura classica dal mito di Afrodite, a quello della Regina Cornaro, dalla Repubblica di Venezia fino al dominio inglese, finalmente il 16 agosto 1960 riesce ad ottenere l’agognata indipendenza. Ma non sempre all’indipendenza riesce a corrispondere la pace. Ed infatti le albe successive si macchiarono della palpabile frattura tra greco-ciprioti e turco-ciprioti in perenne contrasto tra loro sino all’occupazione militare dell’esercito turco. Il resto è storia spesso dimenticata ma immediatamente palpabile non appena ci si avvicina alla zona denominata Green Line frutto dell’intervento delle Nazioni Unite. Ancora oggi, mezzo secolo dopo Cipro è divisa in due, la Repubblica di Cipro, che controlla la parte meridionale dell’isola, e la cosiddetta Repubblica Turca di Cipro del Nord, e Nicosia è la città simbolo di questa divisione nonché la capitale delle due parti, nonostante il riconoscimento non internazionale di quest’ultima” dichiara la curatrice Chiara.
Per la realizzazione dell’installazione Laura Mega, occhio straniero in terra doppiamente straniera, individua i sacchi delle trincee a significare la divisione e allo stesso tempo il rimando al suo contenuto di memoria. E con una cura quasi ospedaliera, utilizza 20 sacchi riempiendoli di sabbia, indistintamente della parte nord e della parte sud, uniti sullo stesso fronte rievocativo della Green Line.
Ogni sacco, ricamato a mano in filo di cotone rosso, riporta la parola REMEMBER. Un messaggio che non vuole alimentare odio, ma ricordare e conservare la memoria di Cipro, come era prima e oggi, un monito alla valorizzazione della sua identità attraverso la memoria.
REMEMBER non vuole essere una domanda e neppure un ordine, ma una semplice parola che rimane sospesa tra le labbra, senza cadere, a prescindere dalla sua radice, dal suo potenziale essere verbo o sostantivo, senza un ruolo specifico nella forma di una frase.
Come una nuvola in mezzo al cielo che accumuna i due lembi di terra della terza isola più grande d’Europa, si tramuta in una mongolfiera visibile a tutti nella semplicità del vissuto di una umanità passata e presente che si porta dentro, ancorandosi alla mente in un tempo indefinito che si protrae, ormai, da anni.

“Ogni sacco rappresenta il corpo e la pelle di ogni cipriota e i punti di ricamo sono come punti di sutura eseguiti su una ferita lunga 180km. Con il passare del tempo, il ricordo è divenuto cicatrice, ma il dolore non si è mai attenuato se non nell’indifferenza di circo mediatico di apparente assuefazione” dichiara l’artista Laura Mega.
I sacchi saranno riempiti di sabbia. L’atto della perdita di sabbia rappresenta la memoria di una persona che si svuota e ne asciuga la passione, al servizio di uno scopo privo di senso. Le frazioni temporali postume al delitto scismatico della terra e della memoria preesistente che si somma a quella di questi ultimi cinquant’anni.
Nel gesto performativo degli artisti Laura Mega e Vassilis Vassiliades, ogni sacco di sabbia viene messo sottovuoto, per preservare le tracce di una memoria quasi perduta, come fosse l’ultimo sforzo, anche quando ogni speranza è svanita.

GLI ARTISTI

Laura Mega, artista attiva sulla scena internazionale dell’arte contemporanea, ha studiato all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma e all’Università dell’Immagine di Milano (scuola sui cinque sensi creata dal fotografo Fabrizio Ferri).
La sua pratica artistica ha il suo focus nell’emancipazione e nell’evoluzione dell’essere umano nella sua unicità, individuale e collettiva, nell’ottica di sviluppo di società umane più giuste, eque e rispettose dei singoli individui e dell’ambiente. Attraverso un linguaggio semplice e contemporaneo, indaga su questioni emotive, sociali e politiche, dove a volte una sottile ironia lascia all’osservatore la responsabilità per una diversa chiave di lettura e di interpretazione.

Le seguenti fasi di annullamento di ossigenazione, con la messa sottovuoto e sigillatura dei sacchi, verranno documentate dal vivo in un atto performativo il giorno stesso dell’opening previsto per il 15 luglio, 2024, per commemorare i 50 anni dall’invasione turca.

Vassilis Vassiliades è nato a Nicosia nel 1972. Ha studiato Pittura presso l’Accademia di Belle Arti “Pietro Vannucci” di Perugia dove si è diplomato nel 1996. Vive a Nicosia e dal 2002 lavora come insegnante nella scuola secondaria. Ha tenuto mostre personali e partecipato a mostre collettive a Cipro e all’estero e le sue opere sono presenti in collezioni private e pubbliche. Ha tenuto conferenze presso università, circoli culturali ed eventi artistici su temi legati all’arte. Dal 2016 al 2021 è stato curatore della Biennale di Larnaca, di cui ora è direttore artistico. Giornali, riviste d’arte e siti web hanno pubblicato decine di suoi articoli sull’arte e la cultura.

LA CURATRICE
Chiara Modìca Donà dalle Rose nata a Venezia nel 1970 e ha vissuto tra Parigi, Roma, Strasburgo, Ferrara, Deauville e Siena. È mecenate, collezionista e curatrice d’arte, internazionalista, avvocato e docente universitaria di diritto dell’arte. Ha completato i suoi studi in diritto dell’arte a Ferrara, alla “Sapienza” di Roma, dove ha insegnato al II livello post-laurea in diritto dell’arte e sicurezza informatica e all’Università “San Raffaele”. Ha insegnato anche a Strasburgo, presso l’Università Robert Schuman, dove è stata occasionalmente assistente del vicepresidente del Parlamento europeo per lo sviluppo del regolamento 3911/92 sull’esportazione dei beni culturali e della direttiva 93/7/CEE del Consiglio. Presso il Centro di ricerca dottorale della Sorbona si è specializzata in sistemi giuridici comparati di tutto il mondo. A Parigi, Chiara Modìca Donà dalle Rose è stata docente presso la Camera di Commercio nel campo del diritto dell’arte per la formazione legale e finanziaria di artisti, galleristi e istituzioni artistiche. Contemporaneamente, per migliorare le sue conoscenze in campo artistico e critico e per approfondire lo studio dell’arte, della scultura, della coreografia e della scenografia, frequenta i corsi dell’Accademia di Belle Arti di Strasburgo e di Venezia. Giovanissima, negli anni ’90, affianca il professor Farina come assistente a Palazzo Diamanti e a Palazzo Massari a Ferrara, e si occupa della gestione dei rapporti con i musei francofoni, in particolare con il Museo Marmottan di Parigi per la mostra “Monet e i suoi amici”.
Dal 1996 al 2001 è stata direttrice legale della Casa d’Aste Internazionale Christie’s in Italia e Svizzera. Chiara Modìca Donà dalle Rose è stata membro del Consiglio di amministrazione dell’Università di Architettura, Arte e Design di Venezia – IUAV, ricoprendo due mandati di otto anni. Ha curato numerosi padiglioni nazionali e collaterali all’Esposizione Internazionale d’Arte e Architettura della Biennale di Venezia, come il padiglione di Italia 2011, Germania, Russia, Iran, Repubblica di San Marino e Camerun. Ha inoltre assunto il ruolo di amministratore legale e direttore artistico per il Politecnico di Torino, la Regione Sicilia, il Comune di Palermo, il Museo Nazionale di Almaty in Kazakistan,
È fondatrice e presidente della Fondazione Donà dalle Rose e presidente di WISH – World International Sud Heritage. Dal 2009 è anche presidente e cofondatore, insieme all’artista Rosa Mundi, di BIAS, la prima e unica biennale d’arte contemporanea al mondo basata sulla suddivisione degli artisti in padiglioni intellettuali, esprimendo così in modo pratico e tangibile le riflessioni di Vassily Kandinsky. La BIAS è organizzata in collaborazione con la Regione Sicilia, il Comune di Palermo, il Ministero dei Beni Culturali, il Ministero dell’Interno e il Ministero degli Affari Esteri.
Ha ideato e organizzato numerosi eventi culturali e musei permanenti in Italia e all’estero, tra cui: il festival del cinema religioso di Salemi, “La via dei mille in musica” in occasione delle celebrazioni per l’Unità d’Italia “straniera” e il festival musicale Monte Amiata dal 2006 al 2011 a Castel Porrona. Ha progettato e curato la Via dei Librai a Palermo dal 2014 al 2018, è stata curatrice del Museo del Risorgimento in Sicilia e del Museo Antropologico della Mafia. Ha curato le mostre “Il Giorgione” e “Bosh” per la soprintendenza veneziana a Palazzo Grimani sotto la direzione del professor Vittorio Sgarbi.
Nel 2012 è stata curatrice dei progetti DESS Smart City dell’UNESCO. Dal 2016 gestisce a Venezia “Le Fondamenta Nove dell’arte” e “ The Doge Venice Red Carpet”, creando un’occasione di scambio di conoscenze tra cinema, arte, musica, moda e design. Una menzione speciale merita anche l’iniziativa “Una Marea di Libri”, che promuove le radici specifiche di Venezia in quartieri storici come Cannaregio, Castello, Arsenale e Laguna Nord. È stato membro del Consiglio di amministrazione delle Fabbricerie della Cattedrale di Palermo, cofondatore della Fondazione Trasformatorio di Amsterdam, membro attivo di Cairo Tronic – Biennale d’Egitto, membro di Skate Park Italia e membro del Comitato per il restauro e la tutela del Cretto di Burri a Gibellina Vecchia. Ha ricevuto il Premio Pirandello, il Premio Platamone e gli MTV Awards. È membro della giuria del “Giorgio Morandi Sustainability Art Award”, del “Bologna Future Film Festival Committee”, del CANIFF e membro del comitato d’onore del Laguna Art Price 2024. Chiara Modìca Donà dalle Rose è una scrittrice apprezzata dal pubblico e dalla critica, le cui opere spaziano dal diritto alla narrativa. È autrice delle proposte di legge “Bonus case a 1 euro” e “Indennità di facciata, indennità antisismica e indennità di ripristino per immobili notificati – Bonus Facciate”, successivamente emendate e trasformate in legge. Ha realizzato sceneggiature, produzioni e romanzi come “Il Bestiaro nel Roseto”, “La città ideale”, “Archeologia futura” e “Judas the guess: il processo all’umanità”, prodotto dal Teatro degli Esoscheletri in 12 diversi teatri e trasmesso da Rai 1 e Radio Vaticana. Autore del cortometraggio “Il tempo della vita dell’umanità”, incentrato sulle migrazioni nel Mediterraneo con particolare attenzione alla guerra in Siria, e del musical teatrale equestre “Il gioco del tempo: in viaggio con Ulisse”.
LA FONDAZIONE DONÀ DALLE ROSE

Site-specific εγκατάσταση των LAURA MEGA και ΒΑΣΙΛΗ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΙΑΔΗ

σε επιμέλεια της CHIARA MODÌCA DONÀ DALLE ROSE

Το Cyprus Memory είναι μια καλλιτεχνική παρέμβαση μεταξύ δύο Ευρωπαίων καλλιτεχνών, της Ιταλίδας Laura Mega και του Κύπριου Βασίλη Βασιλειάδη. Το έργο γεννήθηκε από έναν προβληματισμό που προέκυψε σχετικά με το γνωστό σύνθημα «ΔΕΝ ΞΕΧΝΩ» που δημιούργησε ένας Έλληνας γραφίστας, μετά την τουρκική εισβολή του 1974, για να ευαισθητοποιήσει τη διεθνή κοινή γνώμη. Η φράση αυτή, τα ίχνη της οποίας είναι ακόμη εμφανή στους τοίχους της παλιάς πόλης της Λευκωσίας, έγινε με την πάροδο του χρόνου, σύμβολο του αγώνα για την απελευθέρωση της Κύπρου από την τουρκική κατοχή.

Η καλλιτεχνική παρέμβαση, σε επιμέλεια της Chiara Modica Donà dalle Rose και με την υποστήριξη του Ιδρύματος Donà dalle Rose με έδρα τη Βενετία, θα πραγματοποιηθεί Εργαστήριο Πενταδακτύλου 16 στην οδό Πενταδακτύλου16, 1016 στη Λευκωσία, πολύ κοντά στην πράσινη γραμμή.

Η τοποθεσία δεν είναι καθόλου τυχαία, αλλά αποτελεί αναπόσπαστο μέρος του έργου της έκθεσης. Το Εργαστήριο Πενταδάκτυλου 16 είναι ένας χώρος που μοιράζονται πέντε καλλιτέχνες, Πενταδάκτυλος (πέντε δάχτυλα) είναι η οροσειρά που βρίσκεται στο βόρειο τμήμα της Κύπρου, που σήμερα κατέχεται από τα τουρκικά στρατεύματα. Ο συγκεκριμένος δρόμος βλέπει βόρεια προς το βουνό του Πενταδακτύλου, το οποίο διακρίνεται στον ορίζοντα.

Η Κύπρος, κοιτίδα του κλασικού πολιτισμού, από το μύθο της Αφροδίτης, μέχρι τη Βασίλισσα Κορνάρο, από την Δημοκρατία της Βενετίας μέχρι και την Βρετανική κυριαρχία, κατάφερε τελικά να αποκτήσει την πολυπόθητη ανεξαρτησία της στις 16 Αυγούστου 1960. Όμως η ανεξαρτησία δεν συνοδεύεται πάντα από ειρήνη. Η αμέσως επόμενη περίοδος στιγματίστηκε από την έντονη ρήξη μεταξύ Ελληνοκυπρίων και Τουρκοκυπρίων που οδήγησε σε μια διαρκή σύγκρουση μεταξύ τους μέχρι τη στρατιωτική εισβολή και κατοχή του τουρκικού στρατού. Ότι ακολούθησε είναι απλά η σύγχρονη ιστορία αυτού του τόπου. Συχνά ξεχασμένη αλλά άμεσα αισθητή μόλις πλησιάσεις την περιοχή που ονομάζεται «Πράσινη Γραμμή» η οποία προέκυψε από την παρέμβαση των Ηνωμένων Εθνών. Ακόμη και σήμερα, μισό αιώνα μετά, η Κύπρος είναι διαιρεμένη στα δύο, την Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία που ελέγχει το νότιο μέρος και την ούτω καλούμενη «Τουρκική Δημοκρατία της Βόρειας Κύπρου» στο βόρειο τμήμα του νησιού. Η Λευκωσία αποτελεί μια πόλη σύμβολο αυτής της διαίρεσης καθώς είναι η κοινή πρωτεύουσα των δύο πλευρών, ανεξάρτητα από τη μη διεθνή αναγνώριση της τελευταίας.

Για τη δημιουργία της εγκατάστασης η Laura Mega, με μια ουδέτερη ματιά σε μια ξένη χώρα, χρησιμοποιεί τους σάκους των οδοφραγμάτων ως σύμβολο της διχοτόμησης του νησιού, κάνοντας ταυτόχρονα αναφορά και  στο περιεχόμενο της μνήμης. Με μια σχεδόν νοσοκομειακή φροντίδα, χρησιμοποιεί 20 σάκους, γεμίζοντάς τους με άμμο, τοποθετώντας τους  μαζί σε ένα κοινό μέτωπο που παραπέμπει την Πράσινη Γραμμή.

Σε κάθε σάκο, κεντημένη στο χέρι με κόκκινη βαμβακερή κλωστή, αναγράφεται η λέξη REMEMBER. Ένα μήνυμα που δεν θέλει να τροφοδοτήσει μίσος, αλλά πιο πολύ να θυμίσει και να διατηρήσει τη μνήμη της Κύπρου, όπως ήταν πριν και όπως είναι σήμερα, μια αναφορά στην ταυτότητά αυτού του τόπου μέσω της συλλογικής του μνήμης.

Το REMEMBER δεν είναι ούτε ερώτηση ούτε προσταγή, αλλά μια απλή λέξη που παραμένει μετέωρη ανάμεσα στα χείλη, χωρίς να πέφτει. Ανεξάρτητα από τη ρίζα της, τη δυνατότητά της να είναι ρήμα ή ουσιαστικό, χωρίς ένα συγκεκριμένο ρόλο στη μορφή μιας πρότασης.

Σαν σύννεφο στη μέση του ουρανού που ενώνει τις δύο λωρίδες γης στο τρίτο μεγαλύτερο νησί της Ευρώπης. Μετατρέπεται σε ένα αερόστατο ορατό σε όλους που κουβαλάει μέσα του την απλότητα της εμπειρίας των ανθρώπων από το παρελθόν και το παρόν. Αγκυροβολεί στο μυαλό μας σε ένα απροσδιόριστο χρόνο που όμως συνεχίζεται εδώ και χρόνια. 

Κάθε σακούλα αντιπροσωπεύει το σώμα και το δέρμα κάθε Κύπριου και οι βελονιές είναι σαν ραφές σε μια πληγή μήκους 180 χιλιομέτρων. Με το πέρασμα του χρόνου, η μνήμη έχει γίνει ουλή αλλά ο πόνος δεν υποχώρησε ποτέ, παρά μόνο μέσα από την εθιστική αδιαφορία των μέσων ενημέρωσης, λέει η καλλιτέχνης Laura Mega.

Οι σάκοι θα είναι γεμάτοι με άμμο. Η απώλεια της άμμου αντιπροσωπεύει τη μνήμη ενός ατόμου που αδειάζει τον εαυτό του και στεγνώνει το πάθος του, στην υπηρεσία ενός ανούσιου σκοπού. Τα μεταθανάτια κλάσματα του χρόνου στο σχισματικό έγκλημα επί του εδάφους και η προϋπάρχουσα μνήμη που προστίθεται τα τελευταία πενήντα χρόνια.

Μέσα από την περφόρμανς των καλλιτεχνών Laura Mega και Βασίλη Βασιλειάδη, κάθε σακούλα με άμμο συσκευάζεται σε κενό αέρος για να διατηρήσει τα ίχνη μιας σχεδόν χαμένης μνήμης, σαν να ήταν η τελευταία προσπάθεια, ακόμη και όταν κάθε ελπίδα έχει χαθεί.

Οι φάσεις της συσκευασίας σε κενό αέρος και το σφράγισμα των σάκων, θα καταγραφούν ζωντανά σε μια performance την ίδια ημέρα των εγκαινίων που έχει προγραμματιστεί για τις 15 Ιουλίου 2024, στο πλαίσιο των δράσεων για τη θλιβερή επέτειο των 50 χρόνων από την τουρκική εισβολή.

Το «Cyprus Memory» χρηματοδοτήθηκε από την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση και το Ινστιτούτο Γκαίτε μέσω του προγράμματος – Culture Moves Europe – Second Call for Individual Mobility of Artists and Cultural Professionals 2023-2024.

ΟΙ ΚΑΛΛΙΤΕΧΝΕΣ

Η Laura Mega, καλλιτέχνης που δραστηριοποιείται στη διεθνή σκηνή της σύγχρονης τέχνης, σπούδασε στην Ακαδημία Καλών Τεχνών της Ρώμης και στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Εικόνας στο Μιλάνο (μια σχολή για τις πέντε αισθήσεις που δημιουργήθηκε από τον φωτογράφο Fabrizio Ferri).

Η καλλιτεχνική της πρακτική επικεντρώνεται στη απελευθέρωση και την εξέλιξη του ανθρώπου στην ατομική και συλλογική του μοναδικότητα, με σκοπό την ανάπτυξη πιο δίκαιων, ισότιμων και σεβαστών ανθρώπινων κοινωνιών των ατόμων και του περιβάλλοντος. Μέσα από μια απλή και σύγχρονη γλώσσα, διερευνά συναισθηματικά, κοινωνικά και πολιτικά ζητήματα, όπου μερικές φορές μια λεπτή ειρωνεία αφήνει τον παρατηρητή υπεύθυνο για ένα διαφορετικό κλειδί ανάγνωσης και ερμηνείας.

Ο Βασίλης Βασιλειάδης γεννήθηκε στη Λευκωσία το 1972. Σπούδασε ζωγραφική στην Ακαδημία Καλών Τεχνών «Pietro Vannucci» στην Περούτζια, απ’ όπου αποφοίτησε το 1996. Ζει στη Λευκωσία και από το 2002 εργάζεται ως καθηγητής στη δευτεροβάθμια εκπαίδευση. Έχει πραγματοποιήσει ατομικές εκθέσεις και έχει συμμετάσχει σε ομαδικές εκθέσεις στην Κύπρο και στο εξωτερικό και έργα του υπάρχουν σε ιδιωτικές και δημόσιες συλλογές. Έχει φιλοξενηθεί ως ομιλητής σε πανεπιστήμια, πολιτιστικούς συλλόγους και καλλιτεχνικές εκδηλώσεις για θέματα σχετικά με την τέχνη. Από το 2016 έως το 2021 ήταν επιμελητής της Μπιενάλε Λάρνακας, της οποίας είναι τώρα καλλιτεχνικός διευθυντής. Εφημερίδες, περιοδικά τέχνης και ιστότοποι έχουν δημοσιεύσει δεκάδες άρθρα του για την τέχνη και τον πολιτισμό.

Η ΕΠΙΜΕΛΗΤΡΙΑ

Η Chiara Modìca Donà dalle Rose γεννήθηκε στη Βενετία το 1970 και έζησε μεταξύ Παρισιού, Ρώμης, Στρασβούργου, Φεράρας, Ντωβίλ και Σιένα. Είναι χορηγός, συλλέκτρια και επιμελήτρια έργων τέχνης, διεθνολόγος, δικηγόρος και καθηγήτρια πανεπιστημίου στο δίκαιο της τέχνης. Ολοκλήρωσε τις σπουδές της στο δίκαιο της Τέχνης στη Φεράρα, στο «Sapienza» της Ρώμης, όπου όπως και στο Πανεπιστήμιο «San Raffaele», δίδαξε στο μεταπτυχιακό ΙΙ επίπεδου στο δίκαιο της τέχνης και στην ασφάλεια στον κυβερνοχώρο. Δίδαξε επίσης στο Στρασβούργο, στο Πανεπιστήμιο «Robert Schuman», όπου διετέλεσε περιστασιακά βοηθός του Αντιπροέδρου του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου για την ανάπτυξη του κανονισμού 3911/92 για την εξαγωγή πολιτιστικών αγαθών και της οδηγίας 93/7 /ΕΟΚ του Συμβουλίου. Στο Κέντρο Διδακτορικών Ερευνών της Σορβόννης ειδικεύτηκε στα συγκριτικά, νομικά συστήματα από όλο τον κόσμο. Στο Παρίσι η Chiara Modìca Donà dalle Rose υπήρξε λέκτορας στο Εμπορικό Επιμελητήριο στον τομέα του δικαίου της Τέχνης για τη νομική και οικονομική κατάρτιση καλλιτεχνών, ιδιοκτητών γκαλερί και ιδρυμάτων του καλλιτεχνικού χώρου. Παράλληλα, για να βελτιώσει τις γνώσεις της στον καλλιτεχνικό τομέα και την κριτική αλλά και για να εμβαθύνει στη μελέτη της τέχνης, της γλυπτικής, της χορογραφίας και της σκηνογραφίας, παρακολουθεί μαθήματα στην Ακαδημία καλών Τεχνών του Στρασβούργου και της Βενετίας. Πολύ νεαρή, τη δεκαετία του 1990, εντάσσεται ως βοηθός του καθηγητή Farina στο Palazzo Diamanti και στο Palazzo Massari στη Ferrara, και αναλαμβάνει τη διαχείριση των σχέσεων με γαλλόφωνα μουσεία, κυρίως με το Μουσείο Marmottan στο Παρίσι για την έκθεση «Ο Monet και οι φίλοι του ».

Από το 1996 έως το 2001 ήταν νομική διευθύντρια του Διεθνούς Οίκου Δημοπρασιών Christie’s στην Ιταλία και στην Ελβετία. Η Chiara Modìca Donà dalle Rose ήταν μέλος του διοικητικού συμβουλίου του Πανεπιστημίου Αρχιτεκτονικής, Τέχνης και Σχεδιασμού της Βενετίας – IUAV, με δύο θητείες για οκτώ χρόνια. Έχει επιμεληθεί πολυάριθμα εθνικά και παράπλευρα περίπτερα στη Διεθνή Έκθεση Τέχνης και Αρχιτεκτονικής της Μπιενάλε της Βενετίας όπως το περίπτερο της Ιταλίας 2011, της Γερμανία, της Ρωσίας, του Ιράν, της Δημοκρατία του Σαν Μαρίνο και του Καμερούν. Έχει αναλάβει επίσης το ρόλο του νομικού διαχειριστή και του καλλιτεχνικού διευθυντή για το Πολυτεχνείο του Τορίνο, την Περιφέρεια της Σικελίας, το Δημαρχείο του Παλέρμο, το Εθνικό Μουσείο του Αλμάτι στο Καζακστάν,

Είναι ιδρυτής και πρόεδρος του Ιδρύματος Donà dalle Rose και πρόεδρος του WISH – World International Sud Heritage. Από το 2009 είναι επίσης πρόεδρος και συνιδρυτής, μαζί με την καλλιτέχνιδα Rosa Mundi, της BIAS, της πρώτης και μοναδικής μπιενάλε σύγχρονης τέχνης στον κόσμο που βασίζεται στον καταμερισμό των καλλιτεχνών σε πνευματικά περίπτερα, εκφράζοντας έτσι με πρακτικό και απτό τρόπο τους προβληματισμούς του Kandinsky. Η BIAS διοργανώνεται σε συνεργασία με την Περιφέρεια Σικελίας, τον Δήμο του Παλέρμο, το Υπουργείο Πολιτιστικής Κληρονομιάς, το Υπουργείο Εσωτερικών και το Υπουργείο Εξωτερικών.

Έχει δημιουργήσει και οργανώσει πολυάριθμες πολιτιστικές εκδηλώσεις και μόνιμα μουσεία στην Ιταλία και στο εξωτερικό, μεταξύ των οποίων: το φεστιβάλ θρησκευτικού κινηματογράφου του Salemi, «La via dei mille in musica» με την ευκαιρία των εορτασμών για την ενοποίηση της «ξένης» Ιταλίας και  το μουσικό φεστιβάλ Monte Amiata από το 2006 έως το 2011 στο Castel Porrona. Σχεδίασε και επιμελήθηκε το Via dei Librai στο Παλέρμο από το 2014 έως το 2018, ήταν επιμελήτρια του Μουσείου Risorgimento στη Σικελία και του Ανθρωπολογικού Μουσείου της Μαφίας. Επιμελήθηκε τις εκθέσεις «Il Giorgione» και «Bosh» για τον προϊστάμενο της Βενετίας στο Παλάτι Grimani υπό τη διεύθυνση του καθηγητή Vittorio Sgarbi.

Υπήρξε επιμελήτρια των έργων DESS της UNESCO για την «Έξυπνη Πόλη» το 2012. Από το 2016, πραγματοποιεί τα «Le Fondamenta Nove dell’arte» και «Le Tapis Rouge du Doge Venise» στη Βενετία, δημιουργώντας μια ευκαιρία για ανταλλαγή γνώσης μεταξύ κινηματογράφου, τέχνης, μουσικής, μόδας και σχεδιασμού. Αξίζει, επίσης, να γίνει ιδιαίτερη αναφορά στην πρωτοβουλία της «Una Marea di Libri», η οποία προωθεί τις ιδιαίτερες ρίζες της Βενετίας σε ιστορικές συνοικίες όπως το Cannaregio, το Castello, το Arsenale και η Laguna Nord.

Υπήρξε μέλος του διοικητικού συμβουλίου της Fabbricerie του Καθεδρικού Ναού του Παλέρμο, συνιδρυτής του Ιδρύματος Amsterdam Trasformatorio, ενεργό μέλος της Cairotronic – Μπιενάλε Αιγύπτου, μέλος του Skate Park Italy και μέλος της Επιτροπής για την αποκατάσταση και προστασία του Cretto di Burri στη Gibellina Vecchia. Έχει λάβει το βραβείο Pirandello, το βραβείο Platamone και το MTV Awards. Είναι μέλος της κριτικής επιτροπής του «Giorgio Morandi Sustainability Art Award», της «Bologna Future Film Festival Committee», του CANIFF και μέλος της επίτιμης επιτροπής του Laguna Art Price 2024.

Η Chiara Modìca Donà dalle Rose είναι μια συγγραφέας που εκτιμάται από το κοινό και τους κριτικούς, τα έργα της οποίας κυμαίνονται από τη νομική έως τη μυθοπλασία. Έχει συγγράψει τα νομοσχέδια «Χορηγία για τα σπίτια του 1 ευρώ» και «Επίδομα πρόσοψης, αντισεισμικό επίδομα και επίδομα αποκατάστασης για τα κοινοποιημένα ακίνητα – Bonus Facciate», τα οποία στη συνέχεια τροποποιήθηκαν και μετατράπηκαν σε νόμο. Έχει δημιουργήσει σενάρια, παραγωγές και μυθιστορήματα όπως το «Il Bestiaro nel Roseto» και το «Judas the Soothsayer: The Trial of Humanity» το οποίο ανέβηκε από το Teatro degli Esoskeletri σε 12 διαφορετικά θέατρα και μεταδόθηκε από το Rai 1 και το Radio Vaticano.  Δημιουργός της ταινίας μικρού μήκους «Il tempo della vita dell’umanità», με επίκεντρο τη μετανάστευση στη Μεσόγειο και ιδιαίτερη έμφαση στον πόλεμο στη Συρία, καθώς επίσης και το θεατρικό ιππικό μιούζικαλ “The Game of Time: Traveling with Ulysses”.

ΤΟ ΙΔΡΥΜΑ DONÀ DALLE ROSE

Ιδρύθηκε από το ζέυγος Francesco και Chiara Donà dalle Rose και από τις δύο οικογένειές τους και τους προγόνους τους, Donà dalle Rose, Modìca, Marsot, Scandelibeni (Scanderbeg), de Garzarolli von Thurnlackh (Garzarolofen). Έχει την κύρια έδρα του στο μέγαρο τους στη Βενετία, Palazzo Donà dalle Rose, και δευτερεύουσες έδρες στο Palazzo Imperatore στο Παλέρμο και στο Porto Rotondo στη Σαρδηνία. Πρόκειται για ένα πολιτιστικό ίδρυμα που δραστηριοποιείται στους τομείς των εικαστικών τεχνών, της μουσικής, του χορού, του κινηματογράφου, της λογοτεχνίας, των εκδόσεων, της φιλοσοφίας, της αρχιτεκτονικής, του δικαίου, της πολιτικής και του αθλητισμού και επιδιώκει την προώθηση του πολιτισμού στην Ιταλία και στο εξωτερικό διαδίδοντας τα αρχαία θεμέλια και τις αξίες του πολιτισμού της φιλανθρωπίας και της προσφοράς. Το ίδρυμα υπηρετεί με τον πιο γνήσιο τρόπο τη προώθηση της τέχνης και του πολιτισμού μέσα από δράσεις που συνδέονται με την εκπαίδευση των νέων σε συνεργασία με πανεπιστημιακά, δημόσια και ιδιωτικά ιδρύματα για επισκέψεις στις εγκαταστάσεις του ιδρύματος, όπου διοργανώνονται βιωματικά εργαστήρια και εκπαιδευτικές δραστηριότητες. Το Ίδρυμα και οι ιδιοκτήτες του ζωντανεύουν την πόλη της Βενετίας, του Παλέρμο και του Πόρτο Ροτόντο με πολυάριθμες εθνικές και διεθνείς πολιτιστικές πρωτοβουλίες, που κυμαίνονται από φιλανθρωπικές δραστηριότητες έως την προώθηση της τέχνης μέσα από μπιενάλε Τέχνης, κινηματογράφο, αρχιτεκτονική, θέατρο, και χορό. Διοργανώνει επίσης διαμονές καλλιτεχνών, και εργάζεται για την παγκόσμια προώθηση και τη διαφύλαξη της τέχνης και των αυθεντικών αρχών της προώθησης και της διάδοσης πρότυπων για την προστασία και την ανάδειξη της καλλιτεχνικής, ιστορικής, αρχειακής, φιλοσοφικής και μουσικής κληρονομιάς.

SOME SERIOUS BUSINESS

Το SSB λειτουργεί ως καταλύτης και καταφύγιο για τους καλλιτέχνες βοηθώντας τους να διατηρήσουν τη δημιουργική τους δραστηριότητα και να προωθήσουν τα έργα τους προς νέες και περιπετειώδεις διαδρομές, καινούργια ακροατήρια και χώρους. Αυτή η θεώρηση, που δίνει έμφαση σε όλο το φάσμα της καλλιτεχνικής δημιουργίας, είναι ένα μοντέλο που βασίζεται σε καλλιτέχνες, παρουσιαστές και κοινό που βρίσκονται στην πρώτη γραμμή κάθε φιλόδοξου έργου.

Με γνώμονα το πάθος και τη δέσμευση ότι οι ανάγκες του καλλιτέχνη πρέπει να τίθενται σε προτεραιότητα, το SSB είναι ένας «χώρος χωρίς χώρο» που συγκεντρώνει ένα μοναδικό δίκτυο συνεργατών και παρέχει μια συνεργειακή μεθοδολογία η οποία επεκτείνει την επιρροή της προς πολλαπλές κατευθύνσεις. Ο διαρθρωμένος στρατηγικός σχεδιασμός και η ευφυής ηγεσία της Some Serious Business δημιουργούν ένα γόνιμο περιβάλλον στο οποίο μπορούν να ευδοκιμήσουν ο πειραματισμός, το παράτολμο όραμα, η ανάληψη ρίσκων και η καινοτομία.

Βοηθώντας διαφορετικούς δημιουργούς να περιηγηθούν στο περιβάλλον των τεχνών και να αποκτήσουν πρόσβαση σε πόρους για ανάπτυξη, η SSB παράγει εκδηλώσεις και έργα που διευρύνουν τα υπάρχοντα όρια, υποκινούν απροσδόκητα πάθη, εγείρουν ζητήματα που προάγουν τη γνώση και την κατανόηση του κόσμου μας και πυροδοτούν εμπειρίες αιχμής – ανοίγοντας πόρτες στη μετασχηματιστική δύναμη της τέχνης στη σύγχρονη κοινωνία.

Το Some Serious Business υποστηρίζει έργα σε τρεις βασικούς τομείς προγραμμάτων, καθένας από τους οποίους προσφέρει ευέλικτους, απτούς και εκτεταμένους πόρους, υπηρεσίες και στρατηγικές συνεργασίες. Τα προγράμματα της SSB αποτελούν μια μοναδική εμπειρία, με περιβάλλοντα εργασίας και παρουσίασης σε διάφορους χώρους, από τρένα της Amtrak μέχρι μουσεία, από ανοιχτά χωράφια μέχρι κέντρα πόλεων. Με προγράμματα που περιλαμβάνουν στρατηγικές συνεργασίες με ποικίλους οργανισμούς και προάγουν την αμοιβαία ανταλλαγή μεταξύ καλλιτεχνών και κοινοτήτων, διευρυμένες ευκαιρίες μάρκετινγκ και δημοσιότητας και τη δημιουργία δικτύων συνεργασίας με κοινό κέρδος.

Cyprus Memory

Cyprus Memory is an artistic intervention between two European artists, the Italian Laura Mega and the Cypriot Vassilis Vassiliades, which was born from an accurate reflection arising from the well-known slogan “I DO NOT FORGET” created by a Greek graphic designer, after the Turkish invasion of 1974, to raise awareness among international public opinion. This phrase has become, over time, the symbol of the struggle for the liberation of Cyprus against Turkish occupation, traces of which are still clearly visible along the walls of Nicosia.
The artistic intervention, curated by Chiara Modica Donà dalle Rose and supported by the Venetian Donà dalle Rose Foundation, will take place at the Studio Pentadaktylou 16, at Pentadaktylou 16, in the historic center of Nicosia, not far from the Green Line.
The location is absolutely not random, but an integral part of the performative work. Studio Pentadaktylou 16 is a space shared by five artists, Pentadaktylos (five fingers) is the mountain range located in the northern part of Cyprus, currently occupied by Turkish troops. This road in particular faces north towards the Pentadaktylos mountain which can be seen on the horizon.
“Cyprus, cradle of classical culture from the myth of Aphrodite, to that of Queen Cornaro, from the Republic of Venice to English rule, finally managed to obtain the desired independence on 16 August 1960. But independence is not always accompanied by peace. And in fact the subsequent dawns were stained by the palpable fracture between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots in perpetual conflict with each other until the military occupation of the Turkish army. The rest is history, often forgotten but immediately palpable as soon as you approach the area called the “Green Line” resulting from the intervention of the United Nations. Even today, half a century later, Cyprus is divided in two, the Republic of Cyprus, which controls the southern part of the island, and the so-called “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus”, and Nicosia is the symbolic city of this division as well as the capital of the two parts, regardless the non-international recognition of this last” declares the curator Chiara Modìca Donà dalle Rose.
For the creation of the installation Laura Mega, a foreign eye in a doubly foreign land, identifies the bags of the trenches to signify the division and at the same time the reference to its memory content. And with an almost hospital-like care, she uses 20 bags filling them with sand, without distinction from the north and south parts, united on the same front reminiscent of the Green Line.
Each bag, hand-embroidered in red cotton thread, features the word REMEMBER. A message that does not want to fuel hatred, but to remember and preserve the memory of Cyprus, as it was before and today, a warning to enhance its identity through memory.
REMEMBER is not intended to be a question or even an order, but a simple word that remains suspended between the lips, without falling, regardless of its root, its potential to be a verb or noun, without a specific role in the form of a sentence.
Like a cloud in the middle of the sky that unites the two strips of land of the third largest island in Europe, it turns into a hot air balloon visible to all in the simplicity of the experience of a past and present humanity that is carried within, anchoring itself to the mind in an indefinite time that has continued for years now.
Each bag represents the body and skin of each Cypriot and the embroidery stitches are like stitches performed on a 180km long wound. As time passed, the memory became a scar, but the pain never abated except in the indifference of an apparently addictive media circus.
“The bags will be filled with sand. The act of losing sand represents the memory of a person who empties himself and dries out his passion, in the service of a meaningless purpose. The temporal fractions posthumous to the schismatic crime of the earth and of the pre-existing memory which is added to that of these last fifty years” declares the artist Laura Mega.
Through the performative gesture of the artists Laura Mega and Vassilis Vassiliades, each bag of sand is vacuum-packed, the aim is to preserve the traces of an almost lost memory, as if it were the last effort, even when all hope has vanished. The following phases of cancellation of oxygenation, with vacuum packing and sealing of the bags, will be documented live in a performative act on the same day of the opening scheduled for July 15, 2024, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion.

THE ARTISTS

Laura Mega, an artist active on the international contemporary art scene, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and at the University of the Image in Milan (a school on the five senses created by the photographer Fabrizio Ferri).
Her artistic practice focuses on the emancipation and evolution of the human being in his individual and collective uniqueness, with a view to developing more just, equitable and respectful human societies of individuals and the environment. Through a simple and contemporary language, she investigates emotional, social and political issues, where sometimes a subtle irony leaves the observer responsible for a different key of reading and interpretation.

Laura Mega’s work has been exhibited in international spaces and events such as: Resobox Gallery (NYC), M55 Art Gallery (NYC), Endless Biennial (NYC), Ivy Brown Gallery (NYC), Sejong Museum of Art (Seoul), The Others Art Fair (Turin), MACRO Museum of Contemporary Art (Rome), MADXI (Latina), Every Woman Biennial (London), Clio Art Fair (NYC), KOU Gallery (Rome), WTA – World Textile Art, Biennale Textiles, Textile Museum (Busto Arsizio), Larnaca Biennale (Cyprus), TRYST – International Art Fair, Torrance Art Museum (Torrance, CA, USA), QIPO Fair (Mexico City), Dakar Biennial (Dakar, Senegal), 18th Venice Architecture Biennale (Venice).

Vassilis Vassiliades was born in Nicosia in 1972. He studied painting at the “Pietro Vannucci” Academy of Fine Arts in Perugia where he graduated in 1996. He lives in Nicosia and has worked as a secondary school teacher since 2002. He has held solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad and his works are present in private and public collections. He has held conferences at universities, cultural clubs and artistic events on topics related to art. From 2016 to 2021 he was curator of the Larnaca Biennial, of which he is now artistic director. Newspapers, art magazines and websites have published dozens of his articles on art and culture.

THE CURATOR
Chiara Modìca Donà dalle Rose Born in Venice in 1970, she lived between Paris, Rome, Strasbourg, Ferrara, Deauville, and Siena. Patron, art collector and curator, internationalist lawyer, and university professor of art law. She completed her studies in law and art in Ferrara, at the “Sapienza” in Rome where she taught the Master II Level Law and Art as well as in Cyber Security also at the “San Raffaele” University as well as “La Sapienza”; in Strasbourg at the “Robert Schuman” University where she occasionally served as assistant to the Vice-President of the European Parliament for the development of Regulation 3911/92 on the export of cultural goods and Directive 93/7 /EEC of the Council; in Paris at the Sorbonne Doctoral Research Center where she specialized in comparative legal systems from around the world. In Paris Chiara was a lecturer at the Chamber of Commerce in the field of art law for the legal and economic training of artists, gallery owners, and foundations in the sector. At the same time, to refine her knowledge in the artistic field and her critical sense and deepen the study of art, sculpture, choreography, and scenography, the scientific and exhibition curator attends the Academy of Arts of Strasbourg and Venice. Very young in the 1990s, she joined Professor Farina at the Palazzo Diamanti and the Palazzo Massari in Ferrara as an assistant, managing relations with French-speaking museums, notably the Marmottan Museum in Paris in the Exhibition “Monet and his friends “. From 1996 to 2001, she was legal director of Christie’s International Auction House Italy, and Switzerland section. Chiara Modìca Donà dalle Rose was on the board of directors of the University of Architecture, Art and Design of Venice – IUAV, serving two terms for eight years. She has curated numerous national and collateral pavilions at the International Exhibition of Art and Architecture of the Venice Biennale, also assuming the role of legal manager of the project and artistic director for the Polytechnic of Turin, the Sicily Region, Palermo City Hall, Italy Pavilion 2011, Germany, Russia, Iran, National Museum of Almaty for Kazakhstan, Republic of San Marino and Cameroon. She is president of the Donà dalle Rose Foundation. She is president of WISH – World International Sud Heritage. She is president and founder, with the artist Rosa Mundi, of the BIAS since 2009, the first and only contemporary art biennial in the world based on the division of artists into spiritual pavilions, thus expressing in a practical, and tangible way the reflections of Vassily Kandinsky, in collaboration with the Sicily Region, the Municipality of Palermo, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Founder and president of BIAS, WISH, and Fondazione Donà dalle Rose has organized pavilions and collateral events linked to the Venice Biennale of Art and Architecture. She has created and organized numerous cultural events and permanent museums in Italy and abroad, including: the religious cinema festival of Salemi, “La via dei mille in musica” on the occasion of the celebrations of the unification of the ‘stranger’ Italy; the Monte Amiata Music Festival from 2006 to 2011 in Castel Porrona; designed and curated Via dei Librai in Palermo from 2014 to 2018; she was curator of the Risorgimento Museum in Sicily and of the Anthropological Museum of the Mafia; he curated the exhibitions “Il Giorgione” and “Bosh” for the Superintendency of Venice at the Grimani Palace under the direction of the Hon. Professor Vittorio Sgarbi; she was curator of the UNESCO DESS projects for “Smart City” in 2012. Since 2016, she has carried out “Le Fondamenta Nove dell’arte” and “The Venice Doge Red Carpet”” in Venice, creating an opportunity for exchange, and knowledge between cinema, art, music, fashion, and design. It is also worth, specially highlighting the “Una Marea di Libri” initiative, which promotes the particular roots of Venice in historic districts such as Cannaregio, Castello, Arsenale, and Laguna Nord. She was a member of the board of directors of the Fabbricerie of the Cathedral of Palermo, co-founder of the Amsterdam Trasformatorio Foundation; active member of the Cairo tronic – Egyptian Biennale and member of Skate Park Italy, member of the Committee for the restoration and protection of the Cretto di Burri a Gibellina Vecchia. She received the Pirandello Prize, the Platamone Prize, and the MTV Awards. Member of the jury of the “Giorgio Morandi Sustainability Art Award”, the “Bologna Future Film Festival Committee”, CANIFF; Member of the honorary committee of the Laguna Art Price 2024. Chiara is a writer appreciated by the public and critics, whose works range from law to fiction. She wrote “The call for tenders for 1 euro houses”, “Facade bonus and seismic bonus and restoration bonus for notified properties – Bonus Facciate” which were subsequently modified and transformed into law. She has created screenplays, productions, and novels: “Il Bestiaro nel Roseto”, “Judas the Soothsayer: The Trial of Humanity” staged by the Teatro degli Esoskeletri in 12 theaters and broadcast on Rai 1 and Vatican Radio, the short film “The Time of the Life of Humanity”, centered on emigration to the Mediterranean, with a strong emphasis on the war in Syria, “TheGame of Time: Traveling with Ulysses”, the theater popular equestrian musical.

DONÀ DALLE ROSE FOUNDATION
The Palace today belongs to the spouses Francesco and Chiara Donà dalle Rose, who established the homonymous Foundation for the promotion of culture and the arts, into which their personal collections of ancient and contemporary art collectors have merged. They animate the city with numerous national and international cultural initiatives, ranging from charity projects to the promotion of art with the biennials of art, cinema, architecture, theater, dance, and solidarity events. The Foundation directs and promotes the BIAS – International Biennial of Contemporary Sacred Art, the Doge Red Carpet, as well as the artistic district called “the nine foundations of art”, which organizes artist residencies and is committed to the worldwide promotion and safeguarding of art and the authentic principles of patronage, as well as the dissemination of models for the protection and enhancement of artistic, historical, archival, philosophical and musical heritage.

Born from the union of two families and their ancestors, Donà dalle Rose and Modìca Scandelibeni (Scanderbeg), von Turnlack, de Garzarolli (Garzarolofen), to which the union of spouses Francesco and Chiara is a testament of the most authentic value, the Foundation is a cultural institution that operates in the field of visual arts, music, dance, cinema, literature, publishing, philosophy, architecture, law, politics, and sport, which pursues the aim of promoting culture in Italy and abroad by disseminating the ancient foundations and values of the culture of philanthropy and patronage. Furthermore, there are additional activities related to the training of young people in collaboration with university institutions and, public and private foundations, with visits to the foundation’s offices, workshops, and training activities.
